Masters of Funk (formerly United We Funk All-Stars) represent a coming together of the hottest names in funk.Formed in 1999, this is a show stopping act that uses the identifiable voices of the biggest selling bands of the funk era as one band - Skip Martin & Bobby Harris (Dazz Band); Michael Cooper & Felton Pilate (ConFunkShun); Larry Dodson & James Alexander (Bar-Kays); Sugarfoot (Ohio Players); Mary Davis & Raouf Abdul (SOS Band); Boaz Watson & Belinda Lipscomb (Midnight Star); and more.
Imagine if you will, Michael Cooper playing guitar and singing background to Larry Dodson’s “Move Your Boogie Body” or Felton Pilate playing the trombone to Skip Martin’s “Let It Whip” – no set changes!
Their first album, ‘United We Funk’, offered 14 sizzling tracks, ranging from the hardcore funk of Rick James and the Gap Band to the smooth contemporary funk of the Dazz Band and the SOS Band. The album also contains the last two known recordings from the late funk pioneer, Roger Troutman. He appears with the All-Stars on “Party Train” and “Nothin’ But a Party.”
The second album, ‘Tom Joyner presents the UWF All-Stars Live’, is another treat for the music industry. Featured on the live album are the “old” funk classics like, “You Dropped a Bomb on Me”, “Let It Whip“, “Take Your Time”, “Love’s Train”, and “Freak Show on the Dance Floor”.
From L.A. to New York, Masters of Funk has “funked” up every stage that they played on across the country. Their live performances are an incredible sight to behold, featuring classic hits such as “No Parking On The Dance Floor”, “Fun Fun Fun” and “Joystick”.
