SKIP'S JAZZ JOURNEY

Skip’s love of jazz started at the age of eleven, and was enhanced when he won “Outstanding Trumpet Soloist” at the Monterey Jazz Festival whilst in high school.

His tenor voice has a warm eclectic style developed through the years under the guise of maestro Stevie Wonder. Skip lists Miles Davis, Sammy Davis and Donny Hathaway as major influences on his musical development.

Skip’s first solo jazz CD, 'Miles High' features Ronnie Laws, Wayman Tisdale, Al McKay, Rickey Lawson and Bruce Conte. His second jazz CD 'Formal Dining' features the great talent of his musical director 13-time Grammy Nominee Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyro.

Skip’s “Love Notes” CD features eclectic collaborations with 10-time Grammy Award winner Arturo Sandoval, 13-time Grammy Nominee Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra, Stefan Maier, lead violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power & Balaguer Urbanistic!

Other recent jazz projects include: new CD’s  “EDM Lounge”, “Skip Martin’s Organic Neo 2”. Skip is also a  co-writer on the track “You’re The One For Me” for Tower of Power’s “Step Up” CD and recorded 2 songs on Spyro Gyra’s CD “Vinyl Tap’.
