A 40+ year friendship which started when Skip met Clarence with Youngstown's Mighty Generation that led to a life time of music, memories and Clarence producing Skip on this project!
Skip Martin
Skip Martin is a Grammy Award winning artist, songwriter, producer and author, best known for his tenure as a lead singer and trumpeter for two legendary groups, Kool & the Gang and The Dazz Band.
His achievements include MOBO Outstanding Achievement Award, Platinum & Gold Record recipient, R&B Song of the Year, six consecutive Top 100 albums, two Top 100 singles, to name a few.
Mr. Martin has also received an Honorary Degree of Doctor in Music, several Certificates of Appreciation for his numerous tours to Iraq and Kuwait and is a Special Honorary Member of the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band. In addition, Skip is Goodwill Ambassador to both Kakegawa City and Okinawa in Japan. This is the very first time a resident of a foreign country has received this honor in Okinawa.
You probably cross paths with Skip on a regular basis and don’t even know it! Aside from over 60 CD’s recorded, other highlights include Justin Timberlake’s sampling of The Dazz Band’s “Let It Whip” in a remix version of his 2003 hit “Cry Me a River,” this was also covered by Boyz II Men and SR-71 on The New Guy soundtrack. Film credits include “Jungle Boogie” in Pulp Fiction (1994); “Let It Whip” in Next Friday (2000), Pitch Perfect (2012), Almost Christmas (2016) and The First Purge (2019), to name a few. And Video Game credits featuring “Let It Whip” in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
His proudest achievement is his newly released project “People Get Ready”. Skip brought some of music's great icons to this project, combining the legends from R&B, country, rock and gospel, to this timely rendition of Curtis Mayfield's song, In the end, 29 major recording artists joined together, including Stevie Wonder, Taylor Dayne, Ray Parker Jr., Robert “Kool” Bell, Doug E. Fresh, Neal McCoy and more than 20 others. Proceeds benefit St. Jude Research Hospital.

Clarence Ross (Dr. Bobb)
Throughout his 40+ year career, Clarence "Dr. Bobb" Ross has amassed an impressive list of contributions to some of the most beloved recordings in R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Hip Hop. However, Dr. Bobb, a nickname he earned from musical friends because of the infectious way he bobs his head at the mixing console, is a multi-hyphenate creative who has not always received the proper credit for his work. His career as a professional musician began as a member of local bands in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. In the 1980s, he collaborated and shared a Columbus home with members of legendary Ohio bands, including The Deele, Midnight Starr, and RJ's Latest Arrival. From there, he went on to work professionally as a vocalist, saxophonist, drum programmer, recording engineer, and producer for some of the biggest names in music. From touring as a saxophonist with the funk group, Slave, to laying background vocals on the classic hit "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume, and working alongside Michael Jackson's longtime musical director, Brad Buxer, on programming and sound, Dr. Bobb has done and seen it all.
Dr. Bobb spent much of the 1990s serving as a recording engineer on recordings such as George Clinton's "Paint the White House Black" (1993), Mos Def and Talib Kweli's classic Black Star debut (1998), and as an in-house engineer for Death Row Records. In the early 2000s, he worked closely with the Norwood family as an in-house producer and engineer. He also co-wrote and produced the theme song for TV shows, “For the Love of Ray J” and “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business.” Dr. Bobb is, however, perhaps best known for his 21-year tenure as a programmer and touring saxophonist for the Isley Brothers. He is currently working on new music with life-long collaborator and Grammy award winner, Skip Martin of the Dazz Band and Kool and the Gang and keyboardist Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra.
After many years of keeping his head down and in the work, Clarence "Dr. Bobb" Ross is ready to connect with other producers, engineers, and creatives to create classic material and fight to ensure that they are properly credited and compensated for their work. In addition, he hopes to help ensure that the industry continues to evolve so that creatives coming behind him do not have to deal with the same issues that he did at the beginning of his decades-long career.
